Metalglory / March 2008

Hey Guys. First how are you doing?

Everything's cool, even somehow relaxed. "Tulimyrsky EP" is finally completed, and now we're waiting for our European tour to kick off.

From April 4th till May 5th you will play the Paganfest with bands like Korpliklaani, Tyr and Ensiferum. What are your expectations about this tour? Fans are getting a high-quality line-up!

Yes, it will definitely be an interesting line-up, and the fans will likely be delighted to have an opportunity to check out five bands. And because Ensiferum and Korpiklaani are already very popular in Europe, I also expect a lot of people to show up. I'm sure it will be a great experience to everyone, both to the bands and to the audience.

At April 30th your new EP "Tulimyrsky". Fans will get a 5-Track EP with a full playtime of 60 minutes. I think here you really can say "value for money"!

Yes, "value for money" was the initial thought when we started planning the EP. We wanted to release one new song, and as we also wanted to release the old demo songs and covers, we didn't want to make it a full-length album with a regular price. We didn't know it would actually become over 60 minutes long, but well... it did.

Please tell us why you decided to record the cover-versions of `For whom the bell tolls´ and `Back to north´. Most of your fans maybe exspectated covers of bands like Bathory............

Oh yes, but covering Bathory in Moonsorrow style would be something very boring. It would sound too much like imitation of the original, and there is no point in doing an imitation. We chose Metallica and Merciless because we had our own, distinctly Moonsorrow-sounding vision of those two songs in mind.

Moonsorrow is a band which is popular for a big playtime of the record but not so much songs. Where did your inspiration for those epic songs come from?

Our songs are like stories, they have a beginning and an end, and a lot of stuff in between. They don't have to be long, but they have to tell the whole story. It's like a book, if you haven't reached the conclusion on page 20, you can't stop reading yet.

On the new EP is one new song and two older demo-songs in a new version! why you put especially this two songs in a new version on the EP?

We have played both of them in our live set, and we wanted to give them a little update in the studio as well. I believe it will be interesting for our fans to hear those songs, because the original demos haven't been available for years. It was also a lot of fun for us to record them!

What can we expect from MOONSORROW in 2008. When your new full-lenght will come? What is about another tour after the Paganfest?

After the Paganfest we will do a couple of dates in Finland in May, and then we will play some summer festivals in different countries. In the autumn we will either take a break or play more shows, hehe. What comes to the next full-length, we honestly haven't even thought about it yet.

Last but not least: thank you for your time. The last words are yours.

Thank you for the interview, keep the coffee warm!

Vielen Dank an Ville Sorvali und Shure Shot Worx!
